FLAT Iii / THE Drying loft
For the inner artist or architect in you. It's where they used to dry the hops, most of which were grown on site. Now it's a 1 bedroom, 2 bathroom multi-level space (with extra sleeping platform or gallery) that will have you walking on air. With nearly as many cubic feet as a modern 3-4 bedroom house, this apartment is all about the daily wonder of space, light and colour. And if you still want to dry your own hops, we grow them out in the yard!
Total Space: 981 sq ft, 13,279 cubic ft, arranged as:
Entrance with stairs up to gallery, bedroom and en-suite bathroom, stairs down to living area, sizeable storage area beneath. Large south facing window.
Double height lounge with great south window, and "clerestory" through which you see the original louvre vents for drying the hops (they open to create a deliciously cool breeze in the summer). Door to downstairs bathroom and WC.
Glazed doors through to double height kitchen diner with two sets of windows to the west (views of the yard and lower garden). Further window to north with view of entrance, more louvres to east, and high lunette to the south. The north wall has the old glazed bricks to remind you of another era.
We've designed our preferred layout but left it unbuilt in case you want to have your say. (Option to have it made in our workshop or do your own thing entirely).
Gas fired central heating with reconditioned old fashioned radiators throughout. Deep layers of recycled wool provide the insulation so despite the huge volumes
